Power FM, 947 or Metro? What radio station will Unathi join?

Former Idols SA judge and media personality Unathi Nkayi has landed another radio gig just months after her acrimonious exit from Kaya FM.

In an announcement on Tuesday, Nkayi released a short music video confirming that his new work will begin early next month, when most stations will generally be shedding old talent and refreshing their lineups.

“Guyzini, it looks like this radio station doesn’t want to let me go because from March 1 you want to know what I’m going to do, I’m going to drive you home. What! 3-6 hour drive, March 1, I’ll see you there,” Unathi exclaimed.

What she hasn’t said, however, is which station she will be joining, which has sparked speculation among her fans.

Some fans guessed that she would be joining 947, however, that slot is currently filled by Thando Thabethe.

Others speculated that she would return to Metro FM where the reader’s time slot is currently held by DJ duo Sphe and Naves.

The third most popular suggestion is Radio 2000, where his former colleague Glen Lewis hosts the Glenzito Super Drive with Nathi Ndamase.

With about three weeks until she starts her new gig, only time will tell exactly where she will go.

She was unceremoniously fired from Kaya FM three months ago as the station cited a ‘breach of trust’ after an argument between Unathi and fellow Kaya FM host Sizwe Dhlomo.

“Nkayi’s contract ended prematurely due to certain behaviors which made the relationship intolerable in the future. Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents occurred which resulted in the breakdown of the relationship of trust between the two parts.

“The company can further confirm that due process was followed and the decision was therefore made to part ways with Ms Nkayi,” the radio station said in a statement last year.

She also won’t be returning as a judge on Idols SA after DStv confirmed earlier this year that they would be “shaking things up” for the popular singing contest’s upcoming 18th season.
