Nimba Community Radio Association Puts Media Blackout on Steering Committee – FrontPageAfrica

Monrovia– The Nimba Community Radio Association has strongly criticized the county’s sports steering committee for appointing Mouttar Fofana as head coach of the football team ahead of the county’s upcoming national sports meet.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, NICORA threatened that unless the Committee reconsiders its decision to appoint Coach Fofana, he will have issued a media blackout of county teams and his committee.

According to the statement, they have written a letter to the Chairman of the Nimba County Sports Steering Committee, Mr. Adonis Menlor, informing his office of the recent appointment of Mr. Mouctarr Fofana as the head coach of the Nimba County team. Nimba County football for National 2021/2022. The county sports meet which sparked debate across the county and country coach Mocutarr did not present a good image” of Nimba in previous county sports meets as county head coach when he asked the team off the pitch in the tournament’s grand final two years ago after a penalty was awarded against Nimba.

NICORA felt that Mouctarr’s decision to ask his players off the field violated the true essence of the county’s national sports meet and brought the county into disrepute.

“Mouctarr’s action also led to Nimba being fined and Minister D. Zeogar Wilson harshly and sarcastically calling the Nimbaans ‘hooligans’. As you may recall, following the explosion of the minister Wilson against the county, Mr. Fofana unilaterally and dishonestly apologized to the minister and subsequently resigned as county coach.Such a self-serving move by Mr. Fofana undermined the statements of the steering committee of the Nimba County Sports and Citizens, calling on the Minister to apologize to Nimba on pain of self-expulsion”.

“Dear fellow citizens, as of press time, Mr. Mouctarr Fofana has yet to apologize to the people of Nimba for abandoning the county during such a crisis and also provided the reasons why the team is leaving the field during the game. Mr. Menlor, Article 2 of the Liberian Media Code of Ethics directs us to protect “the public interest”.

“NICORA believes that Mr. Fofana’s action during and after the Nimba Vs Grand Kru Final at the 2019/2020 County National Sports Meet was inappropriate and his recent appointment is contrary to the public interest as evidenced by numerous public appeals to the steering committee to “reverse” this decision and respect the results of an established audit committee.”

“Therefore, having failed to comply with the content of NICORA’s communication addressed to the chairman of the Nimba County Sports Steering Committee, Mr. Adonis Menlor for which he was requested to act within seventy-two (72 ) hours in revoking the appointment of Coach Fofan in order to save the face of the county, the Nimba Community Radio Association (NICORA) places a “media blockage”) on all activities of the county sports steering committee Nimba during and after the 2021/2022 National County Athletic Meet,” the statement signed by his President S. Kennedy Domah states.

NICORA therefore urged all sports journalists working with all Nimba County Community Radio Stations to stay away from Nimba County Sports Leadership Community activities or face indefinite suspension.

“We also call on our partners, our colleagues who owned individual online platforms to join NICORA in this process for the good and interest of the county.
