Mississippi Valley Amateur Radio Club Receives $116,000

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Local amateur radio operators are receiving a significant grant to help them expand their emergency and education capabilities.

The Mississippi River Valley Amateur Radio Club received $116,000 from the Amateur Radio Digital Communications Foundation (ARDC).

A group that started in 1990, the club will use grant money to refurbish the club’s emergency communications bus.

“The grant is for equipping it with equipment so that they are all uniform across all operating positions, on types of equipment, making it easier for our members to transition from operating position to an operating position,” Mississippi River Valley said. Amateur radio club president Craig Goldbeck said.

The grant will also be used on other related materials to accelerate the establishment of ham operators in the field. The bus is already helping with emergency drills, but the club also wants to use it for educational purposes like school presentations.
