However, Luke Combs doesn’t feel the same when his songs play on the radio. Instead, he thinks it’s “weird” to listen to himself. Whether or not the country music star listens after a song is released doesn’t change Combs’ success and growing fan base.

Why Luke Combs doesn’t listen to his songs on the radio

There’s no doubt that Combs is a well-accomplished country singer with several number one radio hits over the years. Fans can turn on the radio when a Luke Combs song plays, but the multi-platinum entertainer will switch stations if his own song plays on the radio. During an interview on the Bobby Bones Show, Combs explained why he prefers skipping his own songs.

Combs said, “It’s just weird listening to yourself.” The singer also said that when a song was released and on the radio, he heard it so many times. Therefore, he no longer wants to listen. Combs thinks he would “definitely” not hear anything new about the song, such as the mixing of the music, because he’s already heard it thousands of times in the studio.

How Combs rose to fame

A native of Ashville, North Carolina, Combs has always had a passion for performing, from singing with several vocal groups in high school to performing as a solo performer at Carnegie Hall. As Combs released his debut EP, The way she rolls, in 2014, it wasn’t until her debut single, “Hurricane” sold 15,000 copies in its first week, that Nashville noticed the rising star. Shortly after making waves with “Hurricane,” Combs signed a record deal with Sony Music Nashville. Her hit single was re-released and quickly topped country music radio‘s No. 1 spot for two weeks.

As the song’s title suggests, Combs took the country music world by storm with 12 consecutive number one hits on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. His recent chart-topper, “Forever After All,” not only topped country music radio charts, but also set streaming records on Apple Music and Spotify.

The country superstar’s main musical achievements

While Combs is at the start of his musical career, he has already received several notable musical achievements. The country star has three grammys nominations to his credit at the 61st, 62nd and 64th Annual Grammy Awards. Combs’ recent Grammy nomination in early April 2022 was for Best Country Solo Performance for his popular song, “Forever After All.”

His talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning nominations at the Country Music Association Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, and CMT Music Awards since his 2017 single “Hurricane.” Combs has also won numerous awards, including multiple AMC Awards for New Artist of the Year in 2018, Male Vocalist of the Year in 2019 and 2020, Song of the Year for “Beautiful Crazy” in 2019 and Artist of the Year in 2021.

From being an award-winning artist to writing and performing chart-topping songs, Combs has only just begun to break into the country music industry. Based on the country superstar’s biography on lukecombs.comthe New York Times calls him, “the most promising and influential new country star of the past five years”.
