ELLSWORTH — Several people were honored at the 66th Ellsworth Regional Chamber of Commerce Awards Ceremony.
Two of those honored were co-owners of Star 97.7 Smooth Rock’n’Roll radio station, Mark OSborne and Natalie Knox.
They received the prestigious “Top Drawer Award”.
“We joke with our friends that it only took us 40 years to get here, but you know, there are a lot of companies in the Ellsworth region that have been around for 40 years or more and are more deserving, or at least as deserving as we are,” Osborne said. “So we feel very honoured.”
The annual Top Drawer Award, which was first established in 1980, is given to an outstanding individual, company or organization that has made a substantial contribution to the growth, development and improvement of Ellsworth, Hancock County and, or the state of Melderaccording to the chamber’s website.
Osborne said him and Knox launched Star 97.7 in 2005, but their roots in broadcasting go back even further.
“Before that, going back to 1982, we started Kiss 94, Lucky 99 and The Bear 104.7 radio, and we retired from radio for a few years in the early 2000s, decided we couldn’t stay at away and came back in 2005 with this station,” Osborne said.
Osborne said he was grateful to his fans and advertisers for their support over the years.
According to Osborne, he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
“Many people ask us what’s next, and I think the next step is more in line with what we’ve done,” Osborne said. “We plan to keep going. We are not afraid of getting old either because fortunately radio is a job that you can do sitting down.
