Inland Empire Amateur Radio Operators to Participate in Exercise Field Day June 27-28 – Press Enterprise

Members of amateur radio clubs affiliated with the American Radio Relay League, including clubs in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, will participate in the annual Field Day exercise from 11:00 a.m. June 27 to 11:00 a.m. June 28 June.

Normally, club members gather in their communities for the event during which they activate their radio communication stations to practice contacting and sending messages anywhere in North America and the world.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, individual Southern California members will be operating in their own yards, using their own call signs, according to a press release.

Many participants will use temporary antennas, batteries or solar panels instead of electric power.

The goal of the exercise, sponsored by the American Radio Relay League, is to contact as many other stations around the world as possible during the 24-hour period. The Field Day exercise is an opportunity for licensed radio amateurs, known as radio amateurs, to practice their communication skills, which can be used in the event of a major disaster.

There are amateur radio clubs affiliated with the American Radio Relay League in many Southern California communities including Riverside, San Bernardino, Barstow, Banning, Chino, Claremont, Calimesa, Corona, Redlands, Loma Linda, Yucaipa, Palm Springs, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Moreno Valley, Menifee and Rialto.
