Highland Amateur Radio Association meets with candidates

The Highland County Emergency Management Agency office was the site of the October 13 meeting of the Highland Amateur Radio Association, which was attended by 24 members and guests. The sanitary instructions were respected.

Following the business meeting, those in attendance heard from two candidates for a position in the Great Lakes Division of the American Radio Relay League.

Michael Kalter, W8CI, of Xenia, is running for the Great Lakes division director, and Scott Yonally, N8SY, of the Mansfield area, is running for the vice director position.

The Great Lakes division covers Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Kalter is a past president of the Dayton Amateur Radio Association and past president of HamVention, which attracts up to 30,000 hams a year to the Xenia Fairgrounds from around the world. He is currently the official spokesperson for HamVention.

Yonally, is a retired automotive engineer and is currently the director of the Ohio section of the ARRL. Earlier this year, he was recognized by the league as the organization’s most outstanding section manager. He currently publishes the weekly Ohio Section Journal, which is distributed to over 4,000 enthusiasts throughout Ohio.

Yonally and Kalter both noted that Highland ARA is well known nationwide for its Highland County promotions with live amateur radio events like operating stations from the Highland County Courthouse lawn and the bridge. Lynchburg canopy. They also noted the Highland County Two State Parks Club’s participation in an annual statewide event promoting the Ohio State Park System.
